Course 6407: 1 Day Instructor-Lead Training Syllabus

INTRODUCTION

This tailored one day training provides students with the understanding and skills to effectively use Team Foundation Server 2017, Visual Studio 2017 and Test Manager 2017 (MTM) in order to manage manual testing in the application lifecycle of a team-based environment. The training focuses on teaching students how to leverage the manual testing functionality within Visual Studio Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) 2017. This course covers a range of topics to help students become familiar with the capabilities of the Visual Studio ALM platform.

PREREQUISITES

Before attending this course, students must have experience in a team-based application lifecycle. The following prerequisites are expected:

  • Have played one or more roles in ALM
  • Be familiar with at least one development methodology
  • Understand Microsoft Office basics
  • Understand Microsoft Windows operating system basics
  • Familiar with manual or automated testing techniques

COURSE OUTLINE

Test Manager 2017 Overview

This module introduces the components and functionality of Test Manager 2017 that will be used to manage the testing lifecycle inside the ALM process. This will provide a technology overview to establish the features and tools that will be used to support the ALM process.

  • Overview of Visual Studio ALM Manual/Automated Testing
  • Overview of Test Manager 2017 (MTM)
  • Overview of test related capabilities of Team Web Access
  • Connecting to Team Foundation Server 2017
  • Overview of test plans
  • Overview of test suite types
  • Overview of the test case work item type
  • Overview of agile testing with MTM

Building a Test Plan

This module will deliver knowledge on how to build and maintain test plans using MTM. This module will provide an understanding of how test plans and test artifacts can be used to effectively test software in team-based environments in Visual Studio ALM.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Creating and managing test plans
  • Create a static test suite
  • Create a requirements based test suite
  • Create a query based test suite
  • Create and manage test cases
  • Create and manage configurations
  • Aligning with agile development teams

Manual/Automated Testing basics

This module will create a high-level understanding of the testing capabilities in Visual Studio 2017 ALM. This module will cover both manual and automated testing.

The following topics will be covered:

  • Overview Manual Testing
  • Overview Automated Testing
  • Overview of Test reporting
  • Overview of the test related capabilities of Team Web Access
