Course: Git in Team Foundation Server & Visual Studio

Course 6426 - 1 day instructor lead

This full day training builds on the concepts covered in the Fundamentals course and aims at helping teams leverage the full power of Git with TFS. This training will enable you to effectively use the Git tools in Visual Studio and Team Foundation Server to manage your source code. This training also incorporates hands-on workshops in order to experience real-life scenarios the subjects covered.


This course is intended for the following roles:

Development Leads, Developers, TFS Administrators

At Course Completion

After attending this course, students will be able to:

  • Use the Visual Studio GUI to perform common Git operations
  • Configure Git settings via the Visual Studio UI
  • Manage multiple Git repositories from TFS
  • Define and enforce repository-level security
  • Review and manage code submissions via pull requests
  • Enforce code quality with branch policies
  • Investigate commit history and add annotations via both Visual Studio and the TFS web UI
  • Manage alerts for Git operations via both the Team Room and email


The following prerequisites are expected:

  • Experience with Git fundamentals (either from prior usage or from attending the Git Fundamentals course)
  • Be familiar with TFS and Visual Studio basics
