The following post describes a problem that can occur when installing or upgrading TFS 2008. We have encountered this error a few times and maybe these tips can save someone a little time.

If you are upgrading or installing TFS 2008 and near the end of the install the following pop-up occurs

TFServerStatusValidator error

Do not cancel just yet, not all is lost.

The installation is try to validate this installation by going to the following URL: http://localhost:8080/Services/v1.0/ServerStatus.asmx.

You can open up a browser (on your TFS application tier machine), enter the URL above and see what is appearing. If all is fine, then do a “Run as” of the browser with the TFSservice account.

This is what should appear:

Server Status

We have worked around this issue by doing different things. After each change you attempt, you can simply press the “retry” button in the error message. Here is a recap of the options we have done to get pass the validation.

1- Do an IISRESET (or IIS Home director of the TFS web site, reselect the Application pool name)

2- If you have a Proxy Server and it is checked, check the "bypass proxy server for local addresses"
These can be found by selecting "Tools" --> "Internet Options..." --> "Connections" --> "Lan Settings..."

Have a good day.
